Introduced at EICMA 2013, Yamaha MT-09 Street Rally will meet the market in 2014 globally. Not so sure the MT-09 will be brought to Malaysian market next year, but I would say it is still in discussion process to bring the three cylinder machine.
Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) actually did not have any advantage to bring CBU models such as YZF R1, R6 and others bigger displacement except XJ6. If they intend to capture big bike market segment, they have to make it as CKD. Positively, HLYM will bring the MT-09 to our market next year. Same goes to the 250cc full fairing R25.
Yamaha MT-09 is a whole new concept and maybe it will stirring Italian Hypermotard market soon. Looking to the MT-09 design, it tends more supermotard looks. For the performance, Yamaha claims the 850cc powerplant delivers 115 hp at 10,500 rpm and 62 lb-ft tork at 8500 rpm.
Yamaha developed a compact aluminium chassis to provide more agility and dynamic handling. This new naked motard-style bike equipped with 10-spoke light alloy wheels for 120/70ZR17 tires at the front and 180/55ZR17 at the rear.
