2014 Kawasaki Z1000 Unleash This January?

After overwhelming the market with Z800, then Kawasaki introduced smaller naked, Z250. However, the market response to the Z250 a bit bland, maybe it cause of lot of options that might be more worthwhile to the ownership value.

After being shown at EICMA, official images and specifications of Z1000 was prevalent in the website. According to a reliable sources, Malaysia is in the list which will launch the street-fighter this January. Z product lines had actually started in the past of 40 years. In 1972 , Kawasaki introduced the first Z series with Z1 models with 900cc engine. Various reforms developed until 2009 later, Kawasaki Z1000 introduced with aggressive design packed with performance features.

It was said, the launched of Z1000 2014 as a great comeback for the Japanese manufacturers. Even so, Kawasaki will be encountered with some new contender in the super-naked segment includes BMW S1000R, Ducati Monster 1200 and KTM Super Duke 1290R which has just launched.

The new Z1000 design have been revised with the concept of ' Sugomi ' - a predator style. Sharp front nose design with the headlight cowls plunging into fierceful character and make it more aggressive appearance.

It was powered by 1043cc engine which have output of 140 horsepower (104.5 kW) at 10,000 rpm and maximum torque of 110 Nm at 7,300 rpm.

Z1000 2014 uses a six-speed gearbox, a brand new transmission system that can provide better response. Gearing ratio has been shortened and the sixth gear is specially designed to provide comfort cruising on the highway.

Latest Z1000 equipped with Tokico monobloc caliper with Kawa trademark - petal design disc brakes, while a single caliper with brake discs 250mm at the rear. Both are supported by the ABS system. Four-cylinder inline DOHC 16-valve engine is also getting a new electronic engine management system to provide smoothness and better response in the middle range and a perfect end revving.

The new Z1000 also receive adjustable lightweight Showa fork: Showa Separate Function-Big Piston Fork (SFF -BP) to get the best handling performance. Likely, as the Z1000 previous model, it will be brought to Malaysian market as a CBU units. Stay tuned for more information regarding this bike.

Here to take its place, is the new Honda EX5 Dream 110 which was launched in July this year. Road-Test Yamaha Lagenda 115ZR

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor ( HLYM ) shows highly commitment in two wheels industry as they introduced the fifth generation of Yamaha Lagenda. The new version of the Lagenda came to the market as to continue local market domination.

Recently, we tested the Yamaha Lagenda 115 ZR which came out with 'Feel The Difference!' tagline. In terms of the bike design, we loved it. Lagenda 115ZR have a sporty looks and build in sophisticated.style. Main headlight and new taillight design better than the previous generation. The ZR painted with Yamaha racing blue color. In addition, the new Lagenda features more structured instrument panel, new design of leg shield and spacious storage under the seat, sports rims which bring more stylish looks.

Riding from HLYM factory in Sungai Buloh heading to Shah Alam has completed our test ride session which we have to run throughout the busy traffic areas, town and highways. The major changes that we feel is about the engine character. New Lagenda have more structured rev and quite powerful in acceleration.

We assumed it was enhanced by the new fuel injection systems. Yamaha told, the fuel injection technology not just provides excellent engine performance, but it gives better fuel consumption. Lagenda 115Z powered by 115cc SOHC four-stroke engine and we dont have no issues with acceleration.

The four speed gearbox works well, but it is quite difficult to knock down lower gear. Perhaps, it is because of the bike did not reached over 1000 kilometers ( km ). Maybe the oil used is too thick which causing slippage gear.

In terms of speed, Lagenda can reach a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour (km/h). Top speed did not too encouraging, but the short gearing ratio gave Lagenda advantages in town riding due to its acceleration performance. From the aspect of handling, it is easy to control: not too heavy even not too light.

As a premium variant, Lagenda 115ZR came with some extra equipment including blue LED backlight at panel meters, storage with lights inside, fold able foot rest and air reservoir at the rear suspension system.

Yamaha Lagenda 115ZR is selling at RM5,410 excluding insurance and road tax and comes with manufacturer's warranty for one year or 10,000 km mileage. The basic version of the Legend of the 115Z is priced at RM4,792.00 while the basic variant with sports rims and electric starter system is selling at RM5,158.

KTM 1290 Super Duke R

Now, it just happen, KTM unveiled the monstrous Duke at Sepang. After the launched, it was announced it will be selling at RM128,800 and on the road costs is at RM133,000. So, it is up to you, which will bring the best sensual riding capacity - either KTM Super Duke or Ducati Streetfighter or cheaper Japanese 4-cylinder Z1000 or the continental BMW K13000R and British made, the 3-piston Speed Triple R.

After the spectacular launch of the 1290 Super Duke prototype, the company follows up with the long awaited premiere of the production 1290 Super Duke R. Crowning their legendary range of Naked Bikes, the Austrians deliver 1290 Super Duke R – a machine that re-defines the very notion of a streetfighter and is ready to raid in all adjacent segments. It is nothing short of the ideal embodiment of the KTM philosophy: endless power, the highest precision, perfect ergonomics, the finest ingredients, not an ounce too much weight, ready to race!

The aggressive design of the new 1290 Super Duke R betrays it immediately and unmistakably: the KTM development engineers may have stuck to the concept of the typical, delicate-looking trellis frame wrapped tightly around a mighty V2 powerplant. But they have put together a comprehensive package that outshines all previous streetfighters and naked bikes – including those made by KTM itself.

At a maximum output of 180hp and only 189kg of weight, the latest Super Duke generation realises a power-to-weight ratio previously reserved for maxed-out hyper sports bikes. And with a load of the latest electronic assistance systems, from the disengagable ABS with “Supermoto” mode to the also multi-staged, lean-angle sensing traction control, it defines new benchmarks for streetfighters and naked bikes regarding controllability and safety.

The extremely light four-valve engine now sets free no less than 180hp of maximum power and 144Nm
of maximum torque from 1,301cc of displacement. Its dual ignition increases the fuel mileage, while lowering the emissions and providing a smooth and refined low rev range.

The hydraulic anti-hopping clutch prevents annoying rear-wheel chatter under heavy braking and lowers the manual clutch force. The V2 engine with 75° of cylinder angle and an electronic engine management with ride-by-wire function brings breathtaking performance, convincing real-world practicality and straight-razor precision into such perfect harmony that its applications range from urban commuting to the race track, where it has all the makings of a potential Superbike terror.

The chassis of the new 1290 Super Duke R copes easily with the challenges that result from the unique riding dynamics of the new KTM. Besides the ultra-lightweight but extremely rigid chrome-molybdenum steel trellis frame with its excellent geometry and bolt-on rear subframe, the credits for this go largely to the top quality and widely adjustable WP suspension components. The front wheel is guided by a pair of 48mm upside-down forks with separate damping circuits. The rear wheel, mounted within a new, especially stable and ravishingly beautiful single-sided aluminium swing arm, has a central pressurised monoshock with manually adjustable spring pre-load. Forks and monoshock offer wide ranges of adjustment from very comfortable to extremely sporty, so the chassis may be adjusted to the rider's preferences.

The unique package of a husky engine and perfectly balanced chassis delivers boundless riding fun and high levels of safety in all conditions and at every pace. Absolute predictability and top safety is not the least guaranteed by the unsurpassed Brembo brakes, the newly developed Dunlop tires and the assistance systems of the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R developed in close collaboration with Bosch.

Among these groundbreaking assistance systems are the combined anti-lock brake system ABS and the ride-mode technology with lean angle sensing traction control MTC (motorcycle traction control). In addition, ABS can not only be completely disengaged but also has a “Supermoto” mode that allows a higher degree of bike lift-up as well as complete rear wheel lock-up. The motorcycle traction control MTC, which can also be disengaged, adds three different modes, allowing different degrees of slippage at the flick of a switch on the left handlebar.

Besides its breathtaking dynamics, the 1290 Super Duke R therefore delivers captivating rideability, convincing everyday practicality and top safety. Perfectly tuned down to the finest details, the package of
engine and chassis combines high functionality with unsurpassed performance in a virtually ideal manner. This means the 1290 Super Duke R is not so much the crowning finish of a long success story but a complete package newly developed without compromise, destined to convert optimum performance into ultimate riding fun at maximum safety. The 1290 Super Duke R will redefine the levels of performance possible with an unfaired motorcycle. More than that, it will write history.
