Proton Iriz review




After it has launched in the market, many were asking whether the Iriz could be trusted, is it reliable and whether it has a great amount value of money. After all, i was not easy to be Proton to dismiss the entire negative stigma which bearded in the peoples’ minds.

Sometimes, we was thinking it would be better if Proton rebranding rather than to overwhelm market positioning. Sure, it may take full blocks of capital along the process.

If we were asked, we can only say - Proton begins to show a slight improvement since they introduce the Preve. And once more, yes, it's really hard-job to change the perception thickened long-long time ago, although some of the commentators have never tried it.

Now, Proton is back in the league and we are proud of latest product – Proton Iriz. The first experience, driving in different 3 variants is enough to give overall picture. And yet, do not compare Iriz with the continental cars, it seems to be overreacting and it would be just nice to put a Japanese-made as a benchmark.

First, we drove the 1.3L Proton Iriz Standard with a manual transmission. What can we say, this variant can provide added value in driving pleasure. Don’t be underestimating to the smaller engine capacity (1.3 liters). Although it was smaller engine coupling with the manual gearbox is capable to give driving satisfaction. Power delivery of the engine is not a much problem and it was deserved to be praised. Clutch is lightweight and easy to handle, while the shifting gear position is smooth and precise. The electric power steering (EPS) also facilitates the overall handling and maneuver.

Testing the Iriz 1.6L Executive variant automatic, it is appropriate to run as a daily vehicle in the busy city traffic. Using a CVT automatic gearbox, it drives smooth, but the engine noise is heard into the cabin space.

Sometimes, it seemed to have a problem with the gear ratio. The engine seemed to have worked hard to accelerate. Handling is fairly stable when Iriz through the winding roads. Iriz’s wheelbase provides advantages in terms of handling, the steering wheel radius and the gravity loads to the body when cornering despite of a good suspension system.

In terms of fuel consumption, on average they had about 7.5L / 100km with an average speed of 90kmj. In addition, the Executive variant received a package of accessories such as multimedia touch screen is responsive.

Testing Proton Iriz Executive 1.6L manual version, the test-session emphasizes the function and effectiveness of ESC, TCS, ABS + EBD, Brake Assist and Hill-Hold Assist. After trying the manual 1.6L Executive variant, we found it was more enjoyable. It's pretty easy to run in a thrilling situation, emergency brakes and slalom.

No wonder Iriz has received a 5-star NCAP rating of Asean. Overall, we are satisfied with what is offered by Iriz. While driving experience variance is too short, he was able to prove he can compete in the global market.
