The
iconic hot hatch has been revealed by Volkswagen Malaysia and will be ready for
Malaysian market starting from 24th August 2013. The all new GTI
packed with performance, and installed with latest technology. Is it good for Ford
Focus and Renault Megane? For now, just let the question unanswered.
However, Malaysian have to wait patiently for the VW flagship, Golf R which will be unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show. I heard that the machine will have latest version of 4Motion system.

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 August 2013
– The seventh generation Golf GTI was unveiled to the motoring media today,
ahead of its launch this Saturday. Malaysians will have the chance to view and
to test drive the new Golf GTI at all Volkswagen dealer showrooms nationwide.
The original Golf GTI
represented the beginning of a new chapter in automotive history as it created
a new segment of hot hatch cars. The new Golf GTI has carried on this living
icon since then.
Volkswagen Group Malaysia
Managing Director Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer said, "The best ever Golf GTI is
here! It is the fastest, most powerful, and most fuel-efficient Golf GTI.”
"This car created a segment of
hot hatch on its own close to 40 years ago and since then, has been a favourite
the world over, across all countries, continents, cultures and creeds and comes
to Malaysia where it has a large following," he added.
The introduction of the
newest Golf GTI marks a significant development of yet another class-leading
hot hatchback from Volkswagen, which has seen 1.9 million cars produced and
sold worldwide.
Back in 1976, when the GTI
was invented, no one could have predicted such success. Some 5,000 units were
planned at the time and eventually became a car that is the most successful of
its type in the world.
And since the first Golf
GTI, all subsequent versions continued this strong heritage throughout the
almost 40 years, each one carving out a character of different periods of its
introduction.
The Golf GTI originally pioneered
dynamic driving that was more precise than any other compact car. The
affordable Volkswagen also made automotive sportiness more attainable than ever
for people.
Everything was simply right
about it – the safe and taut chassis, the agile and fuel-efficient injection
engine and the car’s styling that was as unmistakable as it was timeless.
All of this combined with
the insignias of an icon – a GTI exclusive red stripe around the radiator
grille, a GTI exclusive rear spoiler with black border around the rear
windscreen, GTI exclusive front bumper and rear bumper design, ergonomically
perfect sport seats with a classic tartan design and a name that would never be
forgotten: GTI.
The new Golf GTI is
distinguished from other cars in the model series by distinctive additional
features such as the red painted brake calipers, tail light clusters in dark
red, and tailpipes on the left and right.
Also standard on the most
powerful, fastest and most fuel-efficient Golf GTI ever are the newly designed
18-inch “Austin” alloy wheels with size 225/40 tyres.
The Golf GTI’s 2.0 TSI
pumps out 220PS to the front wheels, with 350Nm of torque powering the car to
100km/h in just 6.5 seconds. This is a 70Nm increase of the previous model. The
Golf GTI is now also faster by 6km/h and tops out at 244km/h.
Coupled to Volkswagen’s
6-speed DSG, the Golf GTI offers a 14 per cent improvement in fuel consumption of
6.4l/100km, which is 1.0l/100 km less than that of the previous model. The Golf
GTI emits 148g/km of CO2 emissions.
Combined with the car’s Stop/Start
system and lightweight construction thanks to the Modular Transverse Matrix
(MQB), the Golf GTI has lost 42kg of weight compared to the previous car,
resulting in even better fuel consumption.
Inside, the distinctive fabric
seats was re-designed and is now known as “Clark”, keeping naturally to the
classic tartan pattern of the Golf GTI tradition.
The GTI sport seats offer
exceptionally good ergonomic properties. The GTI instrument cluster also makes
a strong statement with a GTI exclusive colour display with lap timer function and
unique instrument graphics. The GTI-specific look in the interior is rounded
out by such features as an independent leather sport steering wheel (with
multifunction control), red ambience lighting (in front, in the trim strips of
the doors and the stainless steel door sill guards) and pedals made of brushed
stainless steel.
The seventh generation sports
icon is the first Golf GTI to launch with standard technology highlights such
as progressive steering, the further advanced XDS+ vehicle dynamics function.
The new Golf GTI is priced
at RM217,888. For enthusiasts demanding for pure performance, a less equipped
version of the Golf GTI is available for RM209,888.
As an option, the Tech Pack
is available for RM10,000 more and consists of “Vienna” leather seats with
12-way electric adjustable driver’s seat and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with
Driving Profile Selection.
As an additional option,
the sporty 19-inch ‘Santiago’ wheels with 225/35 R19 tyres are available for RM3,000.
