The Arrival - BMW S1000R

Recently, we saw the vibrancy in our local two wheels market as variety of big bike introductory since last year. The market trend convinces several manufacturers to convey more variant.

These days, BMW had triggering Malaysian market with several of their product range apart of GS enduro series which have been doing well over the years.  And now, many of us have recognized the presence of S1000RR and the highest spec HP4.

In 2012, BMW introduced the HP4 - the best combination of power, handling, superior technology with competitive price showed the uncompromising commitment in the arts of engineering development.

As expected, BMW finally produce the S1000R, the naked version of the RR. With the same supreme technology, it is powered by four-cylinder inline 999cc engine with lightweight chassis. Thus, it is good news for naked machine fans, the S1000R will find the local market this year, expected in June 2014. Personally, I am looking forward to hear, to watch and to feel the machine.

Viewed from the design perspective, S1000R body lines is quite attractive enough at the first glance. Front end to the rear end shaped aggressively and still retains its bad-boy character. As trademark, the headlight designed asymmetrically with the side gill. S1000R designer adjusted the chassis geometry and the handlebar point to grant upright riding positioning.

The RR engine DOHC is retuned to suit the S1000R character. Referring to the global specification, the engine received reworked cylinder head, new cam-shafts, fuel injection system settings and new exhaust system. The machine is able to producing 160 horsepower with the new settings in order to generate further linear torque delivery throughout the revving range.

S1000R equipped with a sophisticated electronic system that integrates the engine performance and handling aspects. Enhanced BMW engine management will arrange better power distribution based on the ride-by-wire reaction.

The technology received by HP4, DDC (Dynamic Damping Control) was integrated with S1000R 46mm Sachs fork and supported by Sachs rear semi-active adjustable shock suspension.  Various optional accessories include cruise control, full titanium Akrapovic exhaust systems and other HP parts as the alternate aftermarket products are available.

So far, Stefan Zeit (Project Leader) product had two variants in the global market – S1000R base model and the S1000R Sport which comes with DDC system. The price will be announced soon, and I expected it will be in the range of RM100K to RM120K.
