BMW Introduce X5 eDrive Concept

At the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show, BMW will unveil their Sport Activity Vehicle concept - X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid concept. BMW claims the SAV will be able to achieve fuel efficiency of 89.2 mpg.

The X5 eDrive powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine turbocharged coupled with a 70 kW or 95 hp electric motor. By relying to the electric motor alone, the eDrive is able to speed up to 120 km/h. Very impressive as the SAV can reach with that speed with all-wheel-drive system. The motor sourced from battery in a crash-safe position at the back of the SAV.

Golf GTI Mk7 Launched Officially

The iconic hot hatch has been revealed by Volkswagen Malaysia and will be ready for Malaysian market starting from 24th August 2013. The all new GTI packed with performance, and installed with latest technology. Is it good for Ford Focus and Renault Megane? For now, just let the question unanswered.
However, Malaysian have to wait patiently for the VW flagship, Golf R which will be unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show. I heard that the machine will have latest version of 4Motion system.

NEW GOLF GTI: OFTEN COPIED, NEVER EQUALLED

The fastest, most powerful and most fuel efficient Golf GTI ever

  • 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds
  • 350Nm of torque/220PS
  • Fuel Consumption of 6.4 litres/100km/CO2 emissions of 148g/km
  • Progressive steering, XDS+, as unique features in its class

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 August 2013 – The seventh generation Golf GTI was unveiled to the motoring media today, ahead of its launch this Saturday. Malaysians will have the chance to view and to test drive the new Golf GTI at all Volkswagen dealer showrooms nationwide.

The original Golf GTI represented the beginning of a new chapter in automotive history as it created a new segment of hot hatch cars. The new Golf GTI has carried on this living icon since then.

Volkswagen Group Malaysia Managing Director Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer said, "The best ever Golf GTI is here! It is the fastest, most powerful, and most fuel-efficient Golf GTI.”

"This car created a segment of hot hatch on its own close to 40 years ago and since then, has been a favourite the world over, across all countries, continents, cultures and creeds and comes to Malaysia where it has a large following," he added.

The introduction of the newest Golf GTI marks a significant development of yet another class-leading hot hatchback from Volkswagen, which has seen 1.9 million cars produced and sold worldwide.

Back in 1976, when the GTI was invented, no one could have predicted such success. Some 5,000 units were planned at the time and eventually became a car that is the most successful of its type in the world.

And since the first Golf GTI, all subsequent versions continued this strong heritage throughout the almost 40 years, each one carving out a character of different periods of its introduction.

The Golf GTI originally pioneered dynamic driving that was more precise than any other compact car. The affordable Volkswagen also made automotive sportiness more attainable than ever for people.

Everything was simply right about it – the safe and taut chassis, the agile and fuel-efficient injection engine and the car’s styling that was as unmistakable as it was timeless.

All of this combined with the insignias of an icon – a GTI exclusive red stripe around the radiator grille, a GTI exclusive rear spoiler with black border around the rear windscreen, GTI exclusive front bumper and rear bumper design, ergonomically perfect sport seats with a classic tartan design and a name that would never be forgotten: GTI.

The new Golf GTI is distinguished from other cars in the model series by distinctive additional features such as the red painted brake calipers, tail light clusters in dark red, and tailpipes on the left and right.

Also standard on the most powerful, fastest and most fuel-efficient Golf GTI ever are the newly designed 18-inch “Austin” alloy wheels with size 225/40 tyres.

The Golf GTI’s 2.0 TSI pumps out 220PS to the front wheels, with 350Nm of torque powering the car to 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds. This is a 70Nm increase of the previous model. The Golf GTI is now also faster by 6km/h and tops out at 244km/h.

Coupled to Volkswagen’s 6-speed DSG, the Golf GTI offers a 14 per cent improvement in fuel consumption of 6.4l/100km, which is 1.0l/100 km less than that of the previous model. The Golf GTI emits 148g/km of CO2 emissions.

Combined with the car’s Stop/Start system and lightweight construction thanks to the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB), the Golf GTI has lost 42kg of weight compared to the previous car, resulting in even better fuel consumption.

Inside, the distinctive fabric seats was re-designed and is now known as “Clark”, keeping naturally to the classic tartan pattern of the Golf GTI tradition.

The GTI sport seats offer exceptionally good ergonomic properties. The GTI instrument cluster also makes a strong statement with a GTI exclusive colour display with lap timer function and unique instrument graphics. The GTI-specific look in the interior is rounded out by such features as an independent leather sport steering wheel (with multifunction control), red ambience lighting (in front, in the trim strips of the doors and the stainless steel door sill guards) and pedals made of brushed stainless steel.

The seventh generation sports icon is the first Golf GTI to launch with standard technology highlights such as progressive steering, the further advanced XDS+ vehicle dynamics function.

The new Golf GTI is priced at RM217,888. For enthusiasts demanding for pure performance, a less equipped version of the Golf GTI is available for RM209,888.

As an option, the Tech Pack is available for RM10,000 more and consists of “Vienna” leather seats with 12-way electric adjustable driver’s seat and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Driving Profile Selection.

As an additional option, the sporty 19-inch ‘Santiago’ wheels with 225/35 R19 tyres are available for RM3,000.

The Spirit of Ninja - Latest DNA Injection

Kawasaki has never been left behind in development of two-wheel machines. They work pretty hard to maintain the pace to be competitive in the global motorcycle market.
Since its introduction more than 25 years ago, the Ninja 250 model has been embedded well with the Japanese company. Kawa’s experiences and never end commitment has been translated into Kawasaki Ninja 250 2013. It can be said, it have the characterization of the racing machine performance speeding beyond the limits of physics.
Along the way to the headquarters of Kawasaki Malaysia, I tried to recall back the previous Ninja 250 models. Ninja 250 is a successful model since its introduction in 1983. It started to get worth in the global market after ZZR250, the third generation introduced. The success continues with the fourth-generation model which was upgraded in the total aspects of design and technical specifications.
Upon arrival at the office Kawasaki Malaysia, I do not put high expectations on this model. From a distance, I saw the white Ninja is ready to be tested.
With a larger body design, it raised more the credibility of Ninja 250. Aggressive image displayed could tackle anyone who sees it. The main attraction lies in the design of new headlight - fierce. Its body shape is done better with a more tapered tail design.
New 10 spokes wheels attached remind me to Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R wheels. Larger rear tire make Ninja 250 appeared more exclusive and would make others confused about its engine capacity.

Performance
Initially, I squeezed the throttle gently. The sounds of motorcycle engines such as force the moves and it seemed the gears need to be shifted. Kawasaki has combined the analogue and digital meters to the new Ninja. Seeing the rpm meter, I just aware the redline was at 13,000 rpm.

Could not be too lenient, I twist the throttle aggressively. As a result, front tires lifted slightly with the power come out from the dual-cylinder engine. Although the throttle twisted until the red line, the engine still sounds good. The vibration was too minimal and it looks like there was no problem even aggressively deployed. The transmission system smooth and easily I can tap the gear paddle along the way.
Easy control
Across the Federal Highway in a sunny weather actually was annoying especially when I get thru in the busy traffic. However, it was not so difficult riding Ninja 250 across the busy traffic.
Kawasaki's two-wheel machines quite easily controlled. It's not too light and not too heavy also – just nice. The riding position requires a bit bent forward. Even so, the mount position is not tiring as it is between the sports bike and naked bike riding postures.
Exit through Shah Alam City Center from the highway, I can feel the high taste to the Ninja 250 creation. It was easily handled during cornering. The suspension system was doing well when I get thru all the corners.

However, it is quite hard to the pillions comfortable. Please beware if you carry a pillion, make sure you pull the brake lever every time you see bumper or hole on the road. I just thought the Ninja 250 shock absorber was installed due to get optimum handling in the racing track.
Kawasaki expertise
Ninja 250R is powered by a 249cc twin parallel in line engine, 4-stroke, DOHC liquid cool. It would produces amount of 31.5 horsepower at 11,000 rpm. The fuel injection system is used to ensure the ideal amount of fuel under all conditions. AS a result, fuel consumption is quite efficient during the test session.

Petal styling disc brakes became the signature of Kawasaki after a long time. Front and rear disc brakes did a good job to ensure effective deceleration. Overall, I am satisfied with the Ninja 250 2013 performance. Major changes in the design and the performance package inside the bike will make it worth to buy. I’m not wonder why it became one of many options in the market.

Proton Suprima S..Is It Good Enough?

Its not too surprised after Proton unveiled the Suprima S last Saturday. The rumors of it had been spread around in the websites several months before. The new national car was unveiled at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Center by former Malaysia Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accompanied by Proton executive chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil.

From the first sight, it looks nice, in better design and more competitive. However, I'm not too sure regarding the engine and the performance. It is powered by 1.6L Turbo engine, produces 140 PS @ 5000rpm, with a maximum torque of 205Nm @ 2000rpm to 4000rpm. The transmission still using the CVT,is it too perfect for it?

In order to grab confidence from Malaysian car buyer, the infotainment package is installed such as Android-based operating system, rear LED guide lights, Hill-Hold assist, and Park Assist with front parking sensors to the Premium variant.

Unfortunately, the improvements made by Proton were underestimated from several group of people. Bad perception is coming from the bad reputation and what have been experienced by the existing Proton user, even my mom. Proton needs to work hard on how to reduce the bad impression..its all about positioning (strategic management), quality and after sales service management!

The Proton Suprima S is available in two variants, Premium variant and Executive variant. It is priced from RM79,638 and RM76,638 respectively (on the road). It is available for sale and test drive immediately nationwide. Prospect buyer would have five color to choose - Fire Red, Tranquility Black, Solid White, Genetic Silver and Atlantic Blue.

Japan GT Malaysia

All the action was taken on 25th June 2013..I'm very lucky when I had the chances to take pictures during the event! For this time, the racing cars in action..just consider to upload the racing queens pics after this..

Will added some more pics later.. :)

Kembalinya Era Cafe Racer
